POSITION SUMMARY:
The Activity Aide assists the Activity Director in carrying out a planned activity program for residents.
Maintains records, transports residents to and from activities.
Performs varied clerical and department maintenance functions.
The person holding this position is delegated the responsibility for carrying out the assigned duties and responsibilities in accordance with current existing federal and state regulations and established company policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: A.
Role Responsibilities – Job Knowledge/Duties: 1.
Demonstrates knowledge of age specific developmental factors specific to adult and geriatric residents (i.
e.
physical, cognitive, and socialization factors) in carrying out activity programs 2.
Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and techniques necessary to carry out activities for residents with the following needs: therapeutic, neuro & dementia, dialysis, IV therapy, and infectious diseases if applicable 3.
Attends appropriately under the direction of the Activities Director and acts as an active member of the interdisciplinary team 4.
Demonstrates ability to adjust to changes in unit/shift assignments to meet resident and family needs 5.
Demonstrates knowledge of and complies with the Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance Program when performing work functions 6.
Other duties as assigned by the Activities Director B.
Role Responsibilities – Administrative Duties 1.
Notifies the Activity Director of supplies needed for the operation of the activities programs 2.
Notifies the Activity Director of needed repairs and equipment and supplies 3.
Encourages the use of volunteers and assists in the supervision of volunteers during programs and parties 4.
Maintains attendance records for resident activities, on a daily basis 5.
Assists Activity Director with the seasonal dcor of the facility 6.
Assists in transporting residents to and from activities 7.
Keeps track of department timesheets and delivers them to the Activities Director on Friday of each week 8.
Keeps an up-to-date Kardex of residents’ birth dates 9.
Performs light housekeeping tasks, such as cleaning up after parties and programs, when necessary.
Keeps office area clean as well as desk and surrounding areas C.
Role Responsibilities – Interpersonal Skills: 1.
Is aware of , and adheres to, Resident’s Bill of Rights and Confidentiality of Resident Information 2.
Develops and maintains a good working rapport with inter-department personnel, as well as with other departments within the facility to assure that activities can be properly maintained to meet the needs of the residents 3.
Interacts with residents, family members, co-workers, clinical and ancillary staff in a non-judgmental, supportive and calm manner 4.
Addresses resident and family satisfaction issues immediately by reporting them to the Supervisor in a professional manner 5.
Is aware of Resident Abuse Reporting Law D.
Role Responsibilities – Safety: 1.
Demonstrates ability to locate emergency equipment (i.
e.
fire extinguisher) 2.
Understands and can demonstrate knowledge of role in fire and disaster drills 3.
Demonstrates ability to identify and respond appropriately to potential behavioral outbursts 4.
Uses facility equipment safely 5.
Recognizes, removes, and/or reports potential hazards 6.
Follows established safety rules/accident prevention E.
Role Responsibilities – Infection Control: 1.
Demonstrates proper hand washing techniques 2.
Maintains proper food handling techniques and ensures glove usage, when necessary 3.
Disposes of waste properly 4.
Understands and maintains activity/kitchen sanitation procedures, when necessary F.
Role Responsibilities – Resident Care/Dignity: 1.
Addresses residents in a respectful manner and knocks before entering residents’ rooms 2.
Discusses confidential resident information in appropriate areas only EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 1.
Must possess a high school diploma 2.
Must possess a valid drivers’ license 3.
Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and/or holidays 4.
Must be able to work independently and as a member of a team 5.
Must present a positive image of the facility 6.
Must meet health assessment requirements, including two stage Mantoux skin tests and one-step annually thereafter 7.
Must be capable of performing the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations 8.
Must be able to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing, and possess sufficient communication skills to perform the tasks required
